A negative electrode active material including a core having SiO(0≤x<2), an intermediate layer covering at least a portion of a surface of the core and including at least one of silicon nitride or silicon oxynitride, and a carbon coating layer covering at least a portion of the intermediate layer and containing nitrogen.
