Abstract
An apparatus for the detection of compartment syndrome (CS) provides an ultrasound transducer which is operative to excite the ultrasound transducer with a transmit waveform having a center frequency. The ultrasound beam traverses through the compartments of interest, and reflections of signal through Rayleigh scattering are received, amplified, and mixed with a transmit clock to form a baseband quadrature signal, or alternatively, are sampled as RF. Reflections from the compartment volume front and rear fascia interfaces are examined for phase shift, after which an elasticity metric is generated indicating the likelihood of CS in the effected tissues.
