Abstract
A static axial seal gland () formed in relief in a substrate () and having an inner sidewall (), an outer sidewall () and a floor () extending between the inner sidewall () and the outer sidewall, one or both of the inner sidewall () and the outer sidewall () being concavely-profiled in radial section along a major portion of its depth to define a projecting lip () proximal a land of the substrate (), the gland (') being fitted with an elastomeric O-ring () which is located and retained by interference with the projecting lip (), either under tension on the inner sidewall () or in compression against the outer sidewall ().
