Abstract

A coated luminescent particle, a luminescent converter element, a light source, a luminaire and a method of manufacturing coating luminescent particles are provided. The coated luminescent particlecomprises a luminescent particle, a first coating layerand a second coating layer. The luminescent particlecomprises luminescent material for absorbing light in a first spectral range and for converting the absorbed light towards light of a second spectral range. The luminescent material is sensitive for water. The first coating layerforms a first barrier for water and comprises a metal oxide or a nitride, phosphide, sulfide based coating. The second coating layerforms a second barrier for water and comprises a silicon based polymer or comprises a continuous layer of one of the materials AlPO, SiO, AlO, and LaPO. The first coating layerand the second coating layerare light transmitting. The first coating layerencapsulates the luminescent particle and the second coating layerencapsulates the luminescent particlewith the first coating layer
