Abstract
A honeycomb-like porous filter for collecting PM in exhaust gas is provided in an exhaust gas passage of an engine. The exhaust gas flows from inflow side cellsof the filter through poresof partition wallsof the filter to outflow side cells. A catalystis supported on surfaces of the partition wallsconstituting the inflow side cellsand on inner surfaces of the poresof the filter. The catalystis supported on the surfaces of the partition wallsmore thickly than on the inner surfaces of the pores
