Abstract

Systems and methods of discontinuous operation for wireless devices are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method may include preconfiguring (), by a user equipment (UE) (), the UE for discontinuous receive (DRX) operation in a connected state. The DRX operation may include modes of DRX operation of the UE with each mode corresponding to a level of connectivity of the UE. Further, while () the UE is in the connected state, the method may include determining (), by the UE, the level of connectivity of the UE and sending (), by the UE, to a network node, a request for the DRX operation. Also, the request may include an indication of the level of connectivity of the UE.
