Abstract

Provided is a rotary damper that makes it possible to adjust braking torque characteristics. A rotary damper () that restricts the movement of a viscous fluid () with which the inside of a cylindrical chamber () of a case () has been filled and thereby generates braking torque against applied rotational force. A flow path () is formed in a partitioning part () of the cylindrical chamber (), and a check valve () is movably arranged inside the flow path (). When a rotor () has rotated in a normal rotation direction R, the check valve () moves inside the flow path () in a closing direction Mand closes the flow path () and, when the rotor () has rotated in a reverse rotation direction R, moves inside the flow path () in an opening direction Mand opens the flow path (). The check valve () comprises a reaction force application part () that generates a reaction force against the check valve () when the check valve () has moved to a prescribed position in the closing direction M
