Abstract
[Object] Reduction of the influence of liquid crystal inversion can be achieved without increasing a driving frequency of a liquid crystal light control element. [Solution] a liquid crystal light control element having a plurality of liquid crystal layers sandwiched between two electrodes serving as electrodes at both ends and arranged side by side in a direction of an optical axis of transmitted light is driven. In this case, a driving signal inverted at predetermined intervals is applied to the electrodes at both ends of each of the liquid crystal layers. By setting the driving signals of the plurality of systems as signals shifted from an in-phase or reversed-phase relationship, so the inversion timing of each liquid crystal layer is made not to coincide.
