A winding apparatusforms a rectangle-tubular edgewise coilby alternately repeating bending of a rectangular conductorin a clockwise direction in a plan view in an edgewise manner and feeding of the rectangular conductor. The winding apparatusincludes a bending jigconfigured to bend the rectangular conductor, five sway-prevention guidesarranged at regular intervals on the same circumference to prevent the edgewise coilfrom losing its shape, the five sway-prevention guidesbeing configured so that when the rectangular conductoris bent in the edgewise manner, the edgewise coilis sandwiched between two adjacent ones of the five sway-prevention guidesin the clockwise direction, and a guide holding memberconfigured to be rotationally driven in synchronization with the bending of the rectangular conductorin the edgewise manner and the feeding of the rectangular conductor
