Abstract

A hybrid full-spectrum air purification device employs a UV light source; ionization, both negative and positive or only negative ions; and, adsorbent VOC filters, zeolite, potassium permanganates, carbon, polymers, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, tromethamine, and/or the like, applied to carbon monolith structures. Room temperature bi-metallic nano-particle catalysts, such as supported noble metal based catalysts (e.g. platinum, palladium, gold, silver, etc.) with inert oxide in this case platinized tin oxide (Pt/SnOx) combined with, or without, non-noble metal oxides such as manganese dioxide (MnO2) and/or titanium dioxide (TiO2), and/or the like, may also be applied to the carbon monolith(s). The device is suitable for installation immediately above, or adjacent, a cooling coil with the air flow entering the germicidal (UV) area first, followed by the VOC catalyst filters and finally being exposed to the dual/single polarity ionization zone.
