Abstract

A luminance difference in an image displayed on an area of interest is easily recognized in a manner free from the effect of luminance of an area surrounding the area of interest. An HDR display () includes an image processing unit (). If the number of digits of a difference between a luminance center value of a luminance distribution in the area of interest in a display unit () and a luminance center value of a luminance distribution in an entire display region is 2 digits or more, the image processing unit () performs a luminance conversion on the luminance value of each pixel in an entire screen in a manner such that the luminance center value of the luminance distribution in the entire display region approaches the luminance center value of the luminance distribution in the area of interest.
