Abstract

The examples of the present application provide a positive electrode material and a lithium ion battery. The positive electrode material comprises: a substrate material; and a coating material formed on at least one portion of the surface of the substrate material; the general formula of the substrate material being LiCoMOor LiNiCoNO, wherein 0≤x<0.1, 0≤y<0.1 and M is at least one of selected from the group of Mn, Ni, Al, Mg, Ti, Zr, Y, P, Cr; ⅓≤a≤0.82, 0.1≤b≤⅓, 0.6≤a+b, N is at least one of selected from the group of Mn, Al, Mg, Ti, Zr, La, Ce, Y; the coating material includes CeZrO, wherein 0≤z<0.1. By using a positive electrode material coated with CeZrO, the direct current (DC) resistance of the lithium ion battery is greatly reduced.
