The present application relates generally to a method and a composition matter that provides a rapid and potent antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation (aPDI) of pathogenic bacteria that express high-affinity cell-surface hemin receptors (CSHRs) using Ga(III)-protoporphyrins IX (GaPpIX or Ga-PpIX).
