A pyrolyzed coal quencher includes: a first water spray tubethat sprays water on pyrolyzed coal having a temperature of 300° C. or more obtained after pyrolyzing coal; a first cooling tubethat performs indirect cooling on the pyrolyzed coal obtained after spraying water by the first water spray tubeto a temperature of 100° C. or more; a second water spray tubethat sprays water on the pyrolyzed coal cooled by the first cooling tubesuch that the pyrolyzed coal has a desired water content; and a second cooling tubethat performs indirect cooling on the pyrolyzed coal cooled by the first cooling tubeto a desired temperature of less than 100° C.
