A technique for more smoothly moving a reflective prism to a target position is provided. A surveying instrumentincludes a leg part, a basesupported by the leg part, a movable partheld by the baseand being movable straight in any direction within a two-dimensional plane relative to the base, a reflective prismmounted on the movable part, and a laser pointerthat is mounted to the movable partand that emits a guiding light in a vertical direction.
