Abstract

An actuator () for a motor vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle seat, includes an electric motor () that is equipped with an output shaft () and a gear mechanism () that is connected to the output shaft (). The gear mechanism () is provided with a gear mechanism housing (). A gear mechanism retaining device () supports the gear mechanism housing () in such a way that the housing can swivel about a swivel axis (). A shaft section () of the gear mechanism housing () that is flush with the swivel axis () is surrounded at least in part by a retaining bracket () of the gear mechanism retaining device (). The output shaft () is located outside the retaining bracket ().
