Abstract
The invention relates to a method () for monitoring the accuracy of the azimuthal orientation of a handheld optoelectronic measuring device to be determined () by means of an electronic magnetic compass, including an automatic ascertainment () of an estimated accuracy value by the measuring device based on measured data of the magnetic compass, characterized by a safety check (), within the scope of which a probability that the estimated accuracy value meets a previously determined () accuracy criterion is automatically ascertained () by the measuring device, and the ascertained probability is provided () to a user as a return value. The invention also relates to a handheld optoelectronic measuring device including an electronic magnetic compass for carrying out the method according to the invention.
