Abstract

A negative electrode for a rechargeable lithium battery includes a negative active material layer on a current collector. The negative active material layer includes a carbon-based negative active material. A Degree of Divergence (DD) value of the negative electrode is greater than or equal to about 19. The DD value may be calculated based on the following equation:DD(Degree of Divergence)=()*100where Iis a sum of peak intensities at non-planar angles measured by XRD using a CuKα ray and Iis a sum of peak intensities at all angles measured by XRD using a CuKα ray.
