Abstract
Provided is a projection type display device capable of performing display of information according to a driver's desire. An HUD includes light sources; a light modulation element that spatially modulates light emitted from the light sources on the basis of projection image data; a projection unit that projects image light that is spatially modulated by the light modulation element onto a projection surface that is a part of a windshieldmounted in an automobile; a designation information acquisition unit that acquires designation information for designating at least one of a maximum number of pieces of content included in the projection image data, display sizes of the pieces of content, or arrangement layouts of the pieces of content on the basis of information input through an operation unit; and an image information generation unit that generates the projection image data on the basis of the designation information acquired.
