Abstract

A solvent useful for lithium batteries comprises a compound of Formula (I): (R)(R)(R)Si—R—O—C(O)—[(O—R)—(O—C(O)]—O—R—X. Each of Rand Rindependently is alkyl; Ris alkyl, —X—Si(R)(R)(R), or —CH—O—C(O)—O—R; Xis H or —Si(R)(R)(R); each of Rand Rindependently is alkylene; each Rindependently is Cto Calkylene; each of R, R, R, and Rindependently is alkyl; Xis O or alkylene; each of Rand Rindependently is alkyl; Ris alkyl or —X—Si(R)(R)(R); each of R, R, and Rindependently is alkyl; Xis O or alkylene; m is 0 or 1, and n is 1-3; and when m is 0 and Ris alkyl, Xis —Si(R)(R)(R). Also described is a method for manufacturing a compound of Formula (II): (R)(R)(R)Si—CH—O—C(O)—O—Rwhere each R, R, R, and Ris alkyl.
