Abstract

A handsfree user input method controlling an immersive virtual environment application for a user with head-mounted device including: detecting input events generated by the user walking motion; determining if the movement type performed by the user is rotation or translation, and if the movement performed by the user is translation, then: determining an equivalent walking distance; calculating a virtual translation distance in the virtual environment notifying virtual translation distance to the virtual environment application; if the movement performed by the user is rotation, then: determining an actual rotation angle; calculating a virtual rotation angle in the virtual environment; notifying the virtual rotation angle to the virtual environment application; interpreting the virtual values by applying virtual environment; and updating the device head mounted display in accordance with virtual content.
