Abstract

A lubricating composition suited to use in a marine diesel engine includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and an amino carboxylate compound of formula (I): NRR—((CHR)NR)—(CHR)—COY, where Rand Rare independently selected from —(CHR)—COY', H, and CCalkyl and wherein at least one of Rand Ris —(CHR)—COY′; or wherein NRRis a cyclic structure; Y and Y′ are independently selected from —OR, NHR, and —N(R); each Ris independently selected from C-Calkyl and C-Calkenyl; R, Rand Rare independently selected from H and C-Calkyl; Ris selected from H, C-Calkyl, and (CHR)NH; x is from 2 to 4; and n is at least 1, except where NRRis a cyclic structure, where n is at least 0.
