Abstract

A deflectable medical device () includes a shape memory alloy wire () integrated into a flexible elongated body (). The shape memory alloy wire () is arranged to shorten upon receiving energy from an energy supply (), thereby deflecting the medical device (). A rod () positioned in a lumen () of the flexible elongated body () and compressed between a fixture () in the proximal end () of the elongated body () and the distal end () of the elongated body () is responsible for the shape memory alloy wire () recovering its initial length upon discontinuation of energy supply.
