Provided is a metal complex which is excellent in quantum yield and full width at half maximum of a light emission spectrum. The metal complex is represented by the following formula (1): wherein M represents an iridium atom or the like, nrepresents 1 to 3, nrepresents 0 to 2, Xto Xrepresent a carbon atom or the like, Rto Rrepresent a hydrogen atom or the like, one of Xand Xis a single bond, and the other is a group represented by —CRR—CRR—, Rto Rrepresent an alkyl group or the like, ring A represents a heteroaromatic ring, and A-G-Arepresents an anionic bidentate ligand.
