Abstract
The present invention relates to mesoporous silica coated nanoparticles comprising a metal oxide nanoparticle core; and a mesoporous silica shell encapsulating metal oxide core; wherein said mesoporous silica shell and the metal oxide core are not in full contact. The nanoparticles of the invention are useful as diagnostic and therapeutic agents.
