Abstract

A wheel bearing apparatus has a seal () with a metal core () and a sealing member (). The sealing member () has a first side lip (), a second side lip () and a third side lip (). The first side lip () opposes a metal annulus () via an axial gap. The second side lip () is in sliding contact with a base (), via an axial interference. The third side lip () covers the outer surface of the metal core (). The tip end of the third side lip () is formed with a vertically flat surface opposing the inner-side surface () of the wheel mounting flange (), via an axial gap (S), to form a first labyrinth seal (). The outer edge of the metal annulus () opposes the sealing member (), via an axial gap, to form a second labyrinth seal ().
