Abstract
A charging device or an electric dust collector has a downstream side grounded electrode plateplaced so as to obstruct the flow of a dust-containing air and having openingsfor allowing the dust-containing air to pass therethrough, a supporting plateplaced on the upstream side of the electrode plate, and downstream side discharging electrodessupported by the supporting plateso as to extend from the supporting platetowards the electrode plate, and placed so as to correspond to the openings. The tip parts of the discharging electrodespenetrate the openingsand project to the downstream side of the electrode plate, and the tip part of each discharging electrodeand the edge part of each openingare positioned so as to have a predetermined gap between them.
