Abstract

The present disclosure concerns a photonic integrated circuit () and a method for interrogating a ring resonator () comprised therein. The circuit () comprises an optical port () for coupling light (L) into and out of the circuit (). The circuit () further comprises a first waveguide () for receiving light (L) from the optical port (), and a second waveguide () for sending back light to the optical port (). The ring resonator () is arranged between the first waveguide () and the second waveguide () for coupling a resonant wavelength (λ) of the light therein between. The optical port () comprises a polarization splitting coupler for coupling light of a first polarization (P) to and from the first waveguide () and coupling light of a second polarization (P), orthogonal to the first polarization (P), to and from the second waveguide ().
