Abstract

A system and method for permitting an SSD () to perform passive Garbage Collection is described. The SSD () may include storage () to store data, and a Garbage Collection logic () that may perform Garbage Collection on the storage (). Reception circuitry () may receive a configuration command () from a host (). The configuration command () may include a condition (), such as an idle duration () and/or a queue depth threshold (). A condition storage () may store the condition (). A state determiner () may determine a state () of the SSD (). A comparator () may compare the state () of the SSD () with the condition () to determine whether to trigger passive Garbage Collection.
