Abstract

Various embodiments disclosed relate to polymers and methods of making the same. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method of forming a polymer including subjecting a composition including a carboxylic acid having the structure (R—O)—Rto conditions sufficient to form a polymer having the structure R—[O—R(O—R)—O—C(O)—R'(O—R)—C(O)]—O—R(O—R)—O—Ror a salt or ester thereof, wherein R, R′ R, R, R, R, z1, z2, and n are as defined herein. In various embodiments, the polymer is a tackifier, a viscosifier, or a combination thereof.
