Abstract
A backlight deviceincludes LEDs, a light guide plate, and a light reflecting portion. The light guide plateis a plate member and includes a light entrance surface, an opposite edge surface, and a light exit surface. The light entrance surfaceis an edge surface of the plate member and opposite the LEDsand light emitted by the LEDsenters the light guide platethrough the light entrance surface. The opposite edge surfaceis another edge surface of the plate member that is on an opposite side from the light entrance surface. The light exit surfaceis a plate surface of the plate member and the light entering through the light entrance surfaceexits the light guide platethrough the light exit surface. The light reflecting portionis disposed on at least the opposite edge surfaceand reflecting light travelling within the light guide platetoward the opposite edge surface
