Abstract

An electrolyte for metal-air batteries, which is able to inhibit self-discharge of metal-air batteries, and a metal-air battery using the electrolyte. The electrolyte for metal-air batteries containing an aqueous solution that comprises at least one self-discharge inhibitor selected from the group consisting of MHPO, MPO, MPO, MHPO, MHPO, LHPO, MLPO, LPOand LHPO, where M is any one selected from the group consisting of Li, K, Na, Rb, Cs and Fr, and L is any one selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Ra.
