A method of inhibiting quorum sensing inis provided. The method comprises contactingwith a gold(I) thiolate complex in an amount effective to inhibit quorum sensing in the. Use of the method for the treatment or prevention of damage or disease associated with quorum sensing and/or biofilm formation in a subject, or for the treatment of biofilm and/or for inhibiting biofilm formation is also provided.
