Abstract

A locking mechanism (), in a motor vehicle, includes two elements () that abut one another along a contact region (). At least one element () has a coating () at least in the contact region. The coating alters under stress during an accident, such that the contact region () between the two elements becomes larger and/or a coefficient of friction between the two elements increases.
