Abstract

A backlight unitincludes LEDs, a light guide plateincluding a light entry end surface, a light output plate surface, and an opposite plate surface, a wavelength conversion sheet, and a reflection sheet. The light guide plateincludes a parallel plate surfaceon a central portion of the opposite plate surfaceand parallel with the light output plate surface, and an inclined plate surfaceon a part of the outer peripheral side portion and being inclined with respect to the light output plate surfaceto be closer to the light output plate surfaceas is closer to the outer peripheral end surface. The wavelength conversion sheetoverlaps the light output plate surfaceand contains a phosphor that wavelength-converts the light from the LEDs. The reflection sheetoverlaps the opposite plate surfaceand reflects light, and includes a parallel reflection portionalong the parallel plate surface, and an inclined reflection portionalong the inclined plate surface
