Abstract

A transfer apparatus () for transferring a workpiece () has a support surface () for supporting a workpiece (). The transfer apparatus () has a carriage () movable with respect to the support surface () between a loading location and an unloading location. The transfer apparatus () further has a drive mechanism () operatively connected to the carriage () for moving the carriage (). The carriage () has a lift member () moveable between a lowered position and a raised position relative to the support surface (). The carriage () further has a push member () operatively connected with the lift member () to enable engagement of a workpiece () with the push member () and the lift member () to lift at least a portion of the workpiece () from the support surface () to decrease the factional engagement between the workpiece () and the support surface ().
