A devicefor providing a breathing gas stream, which contains a therapeutically active substance, for the mechanical respiration and/or mechanical breathing assistance of a patient, wherein the devicehas at least one first line, through which a first gas streamflows during the operation of the device, and wherein the devicehas at least one second line, wherein the first lineand the second linehave a common section, and wherein the first lineand the second lineare connected to one another by a water vapor-permeable membranein the area of the common flow section, the present invention provides for a second gas streamto flow through the second lineduring the operation of the device.
