Abstract

A backlight unit (lighting device)includes LEDs (light source), a light guide plateincluding a light entry end surfaceon at least a part of an outer peripheral end surface and a light output plate surfaceon a plate surface, and a wavelength conversion sheet (wavelength conversion member)disposed so as to overlap the light output plate surfaceof the light guide plateand containing a phosphor for wavelength-converting the light from the LEDs. Light from the LEDenters through the light entry end surfaceand exits through the light output plate surface. The wavelength conversion sheetincludes an increased phosphor portionon at least a part of outer peripheral side portionsOP thereof and the increased phosphor portionhas a phosphor content per unit area that is greater than that in a central portionIP.
