Disclosed are examples of an apparatus for cooling a barrelof a firearmand examples of a cooled barrel assemblyfor installation into an existing firearm. When assembled with the barrel, a contact surfaceof a shellis proximate to, and in thermal communication with, the outer surface of the barrel. The shellis formed of commercially available or modified graphite foam.
