Abstract

The present invention relates to synthetic methods for 1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,3,4-thiadiazole compounds. The general synthetic scheme is: Rsubstituents are —CHOH, —CH(CH)OH, —CHPh, —CH, or —CHC(O)NHoptionally substituted with alkyl or aralkyl. Rsubstituents are —CHOH, —CH, —CHCHC(O)OH, —CHCHC(O)NH, —CHC(O)NH, or —CHC(O)OH, wherein the carboxylic acids and amides are optionally substituted with alkyl or aralkyl.
