Abstract
A Raman pumping arrangement for amplifying a data optical signal () has a Raman pump () for generating a Raman pump signal (), an optical supervisory channel receiver () for receiving an optical supervisory channel signal () an amplification fiber () arranged such that the data optical signal (), the optical supervisory channel signal (), and the Raman pump signal () are transmitted therethrough; and a control unit () configured for controlling the operation of the Raman pump (); wherein the control unit () is configured for setting the Raman pump () in an operation mode or a start-up mode; wherein in the operation mode, the Raman pump () provides an operation pumping power (), and wherein in the start-up mode, the Raman pump () provides a start-up pumping power ().
