Abstract
A method for operating an engine systemcomprising an engineconfigured to consume a fuel, having at least a two flowmetersis provided. The method includes the step of operating an enginedisposed between a supply flowmeterof the at least two flowmeters and a return flowmeterof the at least two flowmeters. A first fuel density in the supply flowmeterand a second fuel density in the return flowmeterare measured. The fuel density measurementsbetween the supply flowmeterand return flowmeterare compared and a differential density measurement value, Δρbased on a difference in the second fuel density and the first fuel density is determined. The Δρis compared to a range of theoretical differential fuel density values, Δρ, and potential fuel contamination is indicated if the Δρ lies outside a range of Δρvalues by a predetermined threshold.
