Abstract

An environmentally responsible, optically efficient, low glare lighting device comprises: a tubular body (); a first plurality of solid state light emitting elements () arranged on a first surface of a first carrier () inside said tubular body; and a flexible reflective sheet () covering said first surface and a first part of an inner surface of the tubular body () to an extent () sufficient to obscure direct visibility of the light emitting surface of the first light emitting elements () if viewed through a light outlet portion () from a location external to the tubular body (), wherein said light outlet portion includes a second part of the inner surface that is not covered by the flexible reflective sheet. A convenient method for manufacturing the device is also described.
