Disclosed are novel strains of protists belonging to thegenus that allow the high yield production of lipids and carotenoids, in particular docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and canthaxanthin and/or astaxanthin, in mixotrophic mode, in particular, using variable and/or discontinuous provision of light, in particular in the form of flashes.
