Abstract
A self-braking gear () comprises: an input shaft (), an output shaft (), a braking mechanism (), which is configured for braking the output shaft (), and a planetary gear (). The planetary gear (), which is connected between the input shaft () and the output shaft (), is configured to activate the braking mechanism () in order to brake the output shaft (), when no torque is provided via the input shaft (). The self-braking gear () may be employed in a people conveyor () such as an escalator.
