Abstract
Food or feed processing systems () include an extruder () and a downstream processor (), and are operable to process high meat food or feed formulations. The processors () include an elongated processor barrel () presenting an inner surface () with a central body or tube () within the barrel () and presenting an outer surface (). The surfaces () thereby define an elongated annular processing region (). The barrel () and tube () are steam heated by means of apparatus (). A rotatable processing element () is also located within the region (). The element () has a plurality of helical vanes (), which scrape the surfaces () to prevent buildup of material on these surfaces.
