Abstract

An object of the present invention is to provide a rubber composition for a sidewall having excellent low heat build-up and durability when formed into a tire, and a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. The rubber composition for a sidewall according to the present invention comprises a diene rubber and carbon black; the diene rubber comprising: a modified polymer obtained by reacting a nitrone compound with double bonds of a conjugated diene polymer; and a natural rubber; a content of the modified polymer in the diene rubber being from 8 to 65 mass %; a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of the carbon black being from 20 to 60[×10m/kg]; and a content of the carbon black being from 30 to 67 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the diene rubber.
