Abstract

A wireless, parasitically powered data processing unitis fastened to a current carrying conductorwithout additional tools, by means of a flexible ferromagnetic beltthat is clamped by its housing around the conductor and forms a transformer core to concentrate magnetic fluxproduced by the conductor and provide operational power to a sensor interface, a data processing device, and a wireless transceiver, without the need for batteries. Sensor signalsreceived from local sensors are processed by the data processing device and information derived from the sensor signals is wirelessly transmitted to remote receivers. The sensor signals may represent measurements of the physical condition of the current carrying conductor or another electrical device, for such conditions as temperature, humidity, vibration, or noise.
