Abstract

An airbag unit having an airbag and at least one inflator. The airbag unit is especially suitable for preventing an element located outside the passenger compartment of a vehicle from intruding into the passenger compartment during an accident. The airbag is made of a hose formed of a one-pieced woven element extending from a first end to a second end. The hose is bent or folded, such that two parallel sections () of the airbag are formed with each section () enclosing a chamber. The airbag is very robust and can be designed such that in its deployed state its thickness is large in relation to its volume.
