Abstract

The present disclosure concerns an apparatus () and method for reading out an optical chip (). A light source () is arranged for emitting single mode source light (S) from its emitter surface (A) towards an optical input () of the optical chip (). A light detector () is arranged for receiving measurement light (S) impinging onto its receiver surface (A) from an optical output () of the optical chip (), and measuring said received measurement light (S). The emitted source light (S) is aligned to enter the optical input () of the optical chip () and the measurement light (S) is aligned back onto the receiver surface (A). The receiver surface (A) is larger than the emitter surface (A) for facilitating the overall alignment.
